These are messages before the great guestbook crash! The guestbook now works again. I finally made my sorry self read the messages from icom.com, my website's host and fix the problem!

Mr. East, I know you are having a great time recording with 4Play, EC and PC. But when are you going to have your own CD? When you do, make sure it is what you want to record and not that smooth jazz bubble gum music that is out there. Always be true to the music of your heart.

Dude, your bass playing is amazing, but I hate to break it to you man, I'm gonna be the best bass player on earth *wink* (Isn't that what Pastorius used to introduce himself as? Hi, I'm Jaco, the best bassist on earth!) Anyway, chances are you'll never read this, but if you do, your a great bass player, and your upright work is fantastic too!!

Nathan is the greatest thing to hit Eric Clapton's band since the '70s. Wouldn't it Be Great if Eric's new band consisted of Nathan, George Terry, Jamie Oldaker or Steve Gadd, Dick Sims, and Marcy Levy and Yvone Elliman instead of Kate Kisoon and Tessa Niles (they don't really impress me)? Keep Rockin, Nathan!

Nate, how's it going? I'm am probably your biggest fan. Everytime I buy P.C.'s and E.C.'s CDs I look to see which songs you are playing on. I am so much of a fan that I have your signature series BBEast Yamaha Bass. Not only that, but whenever I hear that P.C. or E.C. are performing on telelvision I record the program because I know you're going to be playing for them. Also, I read all of the credits in every CD booklet that I buy. I was surprised to see that you played on Brandy's "Truthfully", Kirk Franklin's "Lean On Me", and Faith Evans' "Never Gonna Let You Go". Your style and stage presence has definitely been very influential to my stage presence and style. Hey man, keep on touring and kicking ass!!! Oh, if you can drop a word of advice to me. I want to get started in the music business. I am a pretty descent bassplayer. I am only minutes away from Atlanta where Laface and Arista are located. How can I get started in the music business?? I'll settle for a studio gig for now, but I really want to go on tour with artists such as E.C. and P.H. You've been a great influence in my musical career (what little of it that exists). Thanks a million!!!

Hello Nathan! Let me first say I enjoy your playing and your spirit. You're music has had a profound impact on my bassmanship. I didn't know you produced an instructional video. I just learned that by reading your guestbook here. I'm not sure how old it is or if it's even available in stores. If not, how can I get a copy? Finally, you are truly awesome and a benchmark for musicianship and attitude. Keep up the good work. Best of luck on your solo project... can't wait. And best wishes to you and Anita in the addition to your family this year!!!

Hey, homey Nate....this is your (ex-)Fearless Leader still down in SoCal----just wanted to drop a line to you to let you know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Anywho, been real proud of you, son, especially how your vocals have come along since "Ain't No Sunshine" @ U.S.D.! Keep in touch, don't forget 'bout us common folk, even if you are the Chosen One that got to (deservingly) rub elbows with the heroes we all idolized....and continued blessings! -----Sam P.S. Got any inside lines on a travel-sized Yamaha nylon strings Ac/El guitars? I'm back in the hunt for one that can accomodate a bum right shoulder I've messed up over the years; I'd even whip you up a pot of Black Beans for a hot tip on one!

I just wanted to say that it is hard for me to convey the importance your playing the bass has had on my life. Years ago, I was at a very low point in my life, and I was flipping around the channels and came across a special with most of the songs from 24 Nights was being played. And I couldn't believe my ears, you played like no one I had ever heard before, every note was beautiful, everything fit. I went out and started playing upright the next day, and bought an electric bass a few weeks later. More than 7 years later, I still get excited when I see you play on TV, or put on one of them many recordings I have. You've been an inspiration to me and continue to be to this day. The band I am in is working on cutting our first full length album, and if I had never heard you play, I wouldn't be where I am and where I am going. Thank you and God Bless.

Mr. Nathan East! It is a privlege for me to write to you at all. I just want to thank you sincerely for the inspirational music and instruction videos of yours. I admire your attitude to music. I also have to admit for you that even though I'm very attractive to a very offensive thumpin' kind of playing, I'm sort of having the image of you in remembrance when it comes down to the real thing. To be able to lay down a solid foundation as a support for the whole band, but yet be able to blow of the coolest solo when it fits in. Thank you for that and good look with having fun with your music!

Nathan; I'm a 48-year-old bass player, and have been playing professionally since I was 13. I've been following your career for the last 10 years, and feel that I know your abilities quite well. While subscribing to "Bass Player" Magazine for about 5 years, I've always looked forward to your teaching articles. I can't tell you how many I've incorporated into my on-stage performance. I, as well as many other bassists whom I know consider you as one of the top 3 bass players of all time (the others being Lee Sklar and Bootsy Collins). Tell me ... how did you feel when you adjusted from a 4-string to a 5-string bass? I'm sort of a traditionalist, in that I prefer the 4-string over the 5-string, because I just can't seem to get used to the wider neck. Keep up the good work. I'll still be following you. Hello Nate! You are a fantastic player, singer, songwriter. I have been tuning in to you since the 80's with Al Jarrau (I have an old Showtime video). I have been playing bass for about twenty-two years. My influences are identical to yours. As a young player I was influenced heavily by our friend Dennis Murphy. I was a 13 year old boy ripping off all of his riffs. I still enjoy Dennis very much (plus he is a wonderful human being). Nate, you are living proof that great player can get even better. I love every note that you played on 4. I won't take up too much of your time. Hope to see you in Monterey next time. PS I'm saving up for a World Tour 800 and a 4x10. I'm currently thumping a 5 string Modulus Flea Bass + a Fender Jazz Bass. Take Care Nate and God Bless You.

Hey Nate, I had the incredible honor of catching you play at the Hollywood Bowl on August 29, with Fourplay, and you were just amazing as usual, I can only thank God for the tremendous blessing that you are, it's was cool seeing you jam with Larry Carlton who's one of my favorite guitar players along with Eric Clapton who to me is my favorite and I also caught you playing with him at the Anaheim Pond last year and that also was tight man. Nathan, I came upon your website looking for Eric Clapton "stuff", this was my lucky day! I have always admired your playing even before I knew who you were. watching you alongside Mr Clapton & Phil Collins. Once I became familiar with who you were and Fourplay happened, you do have a fan forever. I knew your brother Marcel from a The Steppin Stonz'in Reno, and between you and him your smiles could light up the world. Finally! A chance to say thanks to a musician who inspired an old trumpet player to try and learn bass guitar (a pain- ful experience for my family...). I also apologize for most of the crowd reaction (or lack of it) from the Charlotte NC Clapton show last year. I was stage right and at mid nose- bleed level(like you saw me) tryin' to get a good talkback going during Have You Ever Loved a Woman. Dang yuppies couldn't figure out what I was tryin' to do! Rest assured that next year when y'all come back, I'll be doin' the same thing again. I also better mention that you're my wife's favorite bass player, so much so that if your name is on an album (no matter the band or artist you're giggin' with), we buy the album. Lookin' forward to your next release(s), Harold

Nathan, as an aspiring young bassist you have been the biggest influence on me more than any one in my life. I hope to someday follow in your footsteps as a number 1 call studio bassist, and someday become as well known, charismatic, and most of all as talented as you. Thank you for years of great bass playing and profound influences.

Nathan, It is always a pleasure to see you live, and with EC. I loved it many years ago you sang "Can't Find My Way Home". Tell Eric you should be doing that when you tour, and any plans to play my favorite live song, "Let it Rain". Hope to hear from you! and just wondering if that along

Wassup Nathan, I have enjoyed your smooth groove lines for sometime now. A Bass enthusiast, and a jazz lover myself, I really get into hearing you play on the fourplay CD. I've checked out the new Yamaha Nathan East Signature Bass online and I like the way it looks. Definitely got to get one of those when I get those type of ends together if you know what I mean. If you ask me you're one of the great ones. An inspiration to us striving wannabes. Keep knocking them out, and I wish you much continued succes. The Fox

Hi Nathan. I've seen you with Eric dozens of times over the years and you always seem to be having a great time. I met you once, and it was a great pleasure. You are truly a genuinely lovely bloke. I heard a story about you sticking up for the girls, when you thought they were getting a raw deal financially - which was such a kind thing to do. I wish you all the best. God bless. Jane

Hi nat. I'm an italian bassist; i play my fodera 5 strings here in italy with a top fourty funky band and in a teatral show (an italian version of Jesus Christ superstar). I've always found in your playing with al Jarreau and the fourplay a great source of inspiration and i want to thank you for the great music and bass line you play. In my opinion you are the greatest bass player on earth (sorry, aftrer the death of Jaco). Sincerely.

We saw your wonderful concert in Ottawa and were fortunate enough to have been in the front row. Following the concert you through a guitar pick into the audience that has your name on it. Thanks! My friend snaffled it up. We're curious to know if you remember who was using it during the concert? It looked like you were having a fabulous time playing and we loved your expressiveness.

Hi Nate...(Bad, bad Steve...you deleted my earlier message ) It was an absolute pleasure meeting you again on June 27th, and getting to meet the rest of the guys in Fourplay. The Lincoln Center concert was great with top notch musicianship all around. (Anyone reading this who hasn't heard this band live, RUN to see them next time they're in your city or at least check out their CDs). Looking forward to lots more albums and tours from the four of you. How about a live album? I'm sure it would be well received. I'm glad to see your on the road again with EC...you definitely bring something extra special to his live performances. See you in October! Linda / WPLJ-FM NYCPS -- Keep watching these pages. Steve has the photos I shot at the BET Jazzscene taping so they should be appearing here soon.

Hi, Nathan...Even though drpr forwarded my words of praise about you, I just had to do it MYSELF! I was front row center at the May 23rd concert here with EC,and Man...YOU made that show!!! You must have walked ten miles that night across the stage, and I credit you with the jovial mood EC was in, as he truly seemed to enjoy himself moreso than I have ever seen. You were incredibly good, and it was so woderful to see you with him again. AND,I didn't know that I liked Jazz until I listened to Fourplay's new CD. Thanks for sharing your many, many talents. Love, Phyllis

Hi Nathan,During EC's recent tour, "Drifting Blues" was a greataddition. In 15 EC concerts, it was the first time I hadever seen him play alone and acoustic. "Broken Hearted"as performed at the Monserrat benefit would be anotherpossibility. Some "alone and acoustic" is nice - but Iwouldn't want to give up "She's Gone" with its crisp drums, overdriven guitar and thumpin' bass!Charmed I'm Sure, Steve

Hi! Nathan:Thanks for all the Fourplay music! Your June 27th concert in NYC was terrific. It was especially nice to meet you and the other band members. Havey Mason was great at breaking the ice. It gave me renewed faith in "meet and greets". Thanks for all the music you've contributed to over the years.
