Buddy Guy

The first time I met the blues, it was called Buddy Guy. I had been up most of the previous night on call, yet had to go to Winston-Salem to see the man Eric Clapton said was "by far and without doubt the best guitar player alive." After the show, Buddy signed autographs. All I had was this bank statement.

In 1995, he was in a club in Winston-Salem and I came better prepared. He and his whole band signed a guitar for me. Luckily, I snagged the autograph before the show. He became irritated when someone kept trying to get his autograph during the show! After the show, there was no getting near him.

My most memorable encounter was on September 24, 1995. Buddy had joined Eric Clapton for "Sweet Home Chicgo," the encore of Eric's Chicago show. Buddy came to "Legends" after the show, shook hands and signed autographs. For more about that day, go to the next page...
