These pictures were taken during the 1974 "Ocean Boulevard" tour with a cheap camera in Greensboro, NC. I apologize for the lousy quality of the photos, but it's the best I can do with what I have. This was Clapton's first major tour after his famous heroin addiction. Pete Townshend had helped Clapton with his recovery, and apparently thought it would be a good idea if he accompanied Clapton on part of this tour. The first hint that Townshend was there came when Keith Moon came charging on stage and smashed a toy guitar (belonging to comedian "Legs" Larry Smith, seen below with the pre-smashed toy guitar) filled with what looked like hamburger meat over Clapton's head. The meat--probably something pilfered from the backstage food table--covered the stage, so Moon shot backstage and re-emerged swinging a broom and swept up the mess. These are the only pictures I have ever seen of Eric Clapton and Keith Moon onstage together. It's too bad Moon didn't join Clapton in Clapton's recovery.
